More on Education Secy-designate Arne Duncan

The image “http://www.edutopia.org/sites/default/themes/edutopia2/images/global/masthead.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. In a 1997 interview with Edutopia, U.S. Education Secretary-designate Arne Duncan spoke candidly about his views on school reform, how he attempted to turn some of the toughest schools in Chicago around, and his visions going forward. The comments left by readers are mixed, he seems to have a love-hate relationship with the rank-and-file in Chicago.

I can't imagine why the comments had mixed reviews. I listened to the entire interview, and although it's dated, he seemed to have a down-to-earth approach to fixing Chicago's system. He had/has good ideas and if I lived in that system, I would have been in 100% agreement with his ideas and plans back then. Even though it's been over 10 years, his ideas are still appropriate fixes for today. In fact, when you hear him speak, he could be talking about Guilford County. We have the same problems. I would love to hear "MO" address those same questions. Mr. Duncan seemed genuinely passionate and enthusiastic about implementing his plan. To date, I haven't seen nor heard our "MO" talk so passionately NOR have any good solid ideas as Mr. Duncan's. I guess now Guilford has taken over the name-sake of Worst System in the Country...
