What is the "Teacher Supply Warehouse" and where did it come from, who funds it and why is it being advertised and utilized now? Is this all part of the new 'stategic' plan? Did Santa come early? Whas up? (see GC website for picture of happy teachers "shopping" in the new warehouse)

Possibly because downtown is under pressure not to cut these funds, under pressure to get these supplies into these schools and classrooms by any means necessary and to silence the critics. I say let's keep the pressure on because these supplies are necessary to these teachers.
And how ironic it is that the so-called Teacher Supply Warehouse will throw open its doors to ALL teachers beginning tomorrow.
This from this week's GCS News Briefs:
Teacher Supply Warehouse Opens Doors to All Teachers
Getting low on classroom supplies? Beginning Tuesday, December 11, the Teacher Supply Warehouse will open temporarily to all GCS teachers, counselors and social workers! Next Tuesday through the end of the 2008-09 school year, all teachers may shop the Teacher Supply Warehouse for free supplies. You may shop four times until the end of the school year. The only thing we ask is for you or your students to write a thank-you note to one or more of the companies that make donations. You may shop any Tuesday or Thursday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., but you must first register to shop. There is a limit of 75 shoppers per day. Click here for more information and to register.
We are grateful to our partners, The Guilford Education Alliance, Welfare Reform Liaison Project and Leadership Greensboro, for making this possible during these hard economic times. Please take advantage of this great offer and encourage people you know at local companies to make donations. The Teacher Supply Warehouse can only operate through the donations it receives. To donate, please contact Cecilia Adams, manager of community partnerships, at 370-8355 or by e-mail at adamsc4@gcsnc.com .

It is to my understanding that up until now, this warehouse was only open to Title I GCS schools and GCS high-impact schools. A good idea, from its inception, yet unfair to the school which may not be impacted by poverty, yet is seeing its copy paper supply being rationed by downtown.
Guilford School Watch applauds this move, however this bears watching, in light of pending upcoming budget cuts by GCS brass.
E.C. :)

If it's open till the end of the year, why does it say, "...will open temporarily.."...? Hmmmm??
Thankfully we have online classroom supply stores that let you order in bulk. We're lacking some efficiently stocked supply stores here in my area, so my time is spent on here searching for everything my kids will need for fall.
